Head of the Class | Nova Scotia High School Senior Photographer

Class of 1993.

It’s been 17 years since I graduated from Bridgetown Regional High School, and more than 10 since I set foot inside the doors.

Until yesterday.

It smells the same. It looks the same. Some of the teachers are the same. My dorky photo is still on the wall.

I instantly reverted to the age of 17, and was positive I would  get in trouble for “roaming the halls”.

I made the trip down to give a presentation to the Grade 11 and 12 students on “Senior Portraits” and drug invited Liam Hennessey along for the ride. (Good thing too, cuz you never know when an expert stick man drawing is needed!)

We spoke to a small, but interested, group about everything from composition and exposure to our photography backgrounds.

And then…….then it was time to do what we do. The cameras came out, and the good times rolled.

Thanks to “the girls” for being so willing…you were the highlight of our day….thank you for not calling me Ms. Shields….and thank you for not rolling your eyes when I called you “kids” !

Big thanks to Lori Whitman-Price (Art teacher and friend extraordinare,  so obviously loved by all her kids), staff and students, all of whom were so welcoming.

GO TROJANS!

I Don’t Shoot Weddings……..Yet | Halifax Portrait Photographer

I don’t. I get asked all the time, yet it is a VERY rare occasion that I will say yes.  They scare me right now.  Some day, they won’t.

But this wedding already happened! And it was time to play!

If you’re not a fan of prying eyes, or being the centre of attention, it’s probably not the best idea to take a beautiful girl in a wedding dress and stick her in the dirt.

Of course, if you did do something wacky like that, you might just get treated to a personal tour of the dockyards by railcar.

Thanks to Liam of Applehead Studio for the invitation to shoot, and to Cheryl for being up for absolutely anything……I had a blast.

October Opening | Halifax Childhood Photographer

Just a quick little post tonight to let everyone know that a session date has opened up for October 10th.

It’s the only date left in October, and qualifies for the complimentary set of custom cards, so act quickly!

Can’t have a post without a picture, so here’s a quick one of my daughter from this Natal Day weekend.

She’s all dolled up in some super sweet handcrafted clothing and accessories from a couple of new designers I’m working with.

You’ll be seeing lots of them in the future!

Too Cool For School: Auburn ‘09 | Halifax Seniors Photographer

Kids are way cooler now. I only graduated high school  16 years ago…..but we didn’t look like this. Holy smokes.

I work with Emma’s mom, and she asked if I would come take some photos of the soon-to-be graduates on the way to Prom. The rain put a damper on the original location, but we made do. The “kids” arrived doubledecker style, and all fired up. The dresses were beautiful, the girls even more.

I wanted to capture something different from the uber-stiff posed pictures….there will be plenty of those from the proud parents…(and there were TONS of them!) so that’s why these are B&W, and a little grittier than my usual fare.

I wish I had cool photos like this from my prom.

I hope you like the “sneak peek” Emma, and I hope you had a great night.

And can we just take a second and bow to these shoes?
