Wheeldon Wedding: Part II | Nova Scotia Wedding Photography

After Jen and Morgan’s ceremony at Cherry Hill Beach, everyone headed back to Oak Island in preparation for Liz and Johannes’ celebration later that afternoon. It was a time for some tennis playing, a brunch with old girlfriends from school, a bbq, a nap……and for me….a time to blow dry my pants! Shooting at the beach has its hazards you know!

I loved the quiet time for Liz and her Mom while getting ready. The love and respect for each other was palpable.

Liz’s reaction to her brother’s “custom” pocket scarf (both he and Dad had them!) was awesome.

The entire day was very much about two families joining together, and it was evident even in the way they walked in. Side by side, as one group, meeting at the front where a unity candle was lit.

Wonderful weather, warm and welcoming people, you couldn’t have asked for more.

Thank you again to the John,  Suiter and Wheeldon families for allowing me the honor of capturing your day. I hope I was able to do it in a way that reflects the honesty and “realness” of you all. ♥

Wheeldon Wedding: Part I | Nova Scotia Wedding Photography

This post will be a bit different than what you are used to seeing from me! In fact, I’ve apparently done such a good job marketing my maternity & newborn work that many people were surprised to hear I was shooting a wedding.

This however, was no ordinary wedding. When Jen first contacted me back in January, she and Morgan were living and teaching in Korea. They had announced their engagement right around the same time as Morgan’s brother, Johannes, and his fiance Liz.

Still with me?

Originally there was to be a joint ceremony, which over time morphed into two separate locations with entirely different feels.

We started the day with Jen and Morgan at Cherry Hill Beach. In our correspondence leading up to this past Saturday, Jen described her vision for the day as “very hippy and flowy and relaxed”.

And that it was.

There were no rings exchanged, rather a traditional smudging and blanket ceremony were performed. Followed by some fun in the sun ;)

I will be posting coverage of Liz and Johannes’ more formal, but equally as intimate, ceremony in the days to come. It took place on the chalet lawns of Oak Island Resort and Spa, which was also the setting for Jen and Morgan’s private shoot on the breakwater.

TO BE CONTINUED…….♥

Julia | Halifax Newborn Baby Photographer

“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men / Gang aft agley.” ~ Robert Burns

Being a newborn photographer, I am often asked, “How do you get a baby to do that?”….or, “How do you keep the babies asleep?”

And the truth is, I don’t always. And that’s ok.

Enter little Miss Julia, nineteen days new.

Inquisitive. Content. Loved.

Perfect.

Lauren and Danielle | Halifax Newborn Photographer

One newborn can be challenging enough to photograph…..two….can be downright difficult.

Unless it’s these two.

Good as gold, they slept for five hours.

FIVE HOURS.

All of my babies are the best, but these two peanuts were hands down the easiest to photograph.

If you are fortunate enough to know Kelly and Mike, you know just how much wishing and hoping came before this special arrival.

Lauren and Danielle are two very special, very loved, very lucky little girls.

Farewell to Nova Scotia | Halifax Child and Family Photographer

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you may remember baby Nathalie from October. She was just 3 months old back then, and her Daddy Phil was getting ready for a 6 month tour of duty in the Persian Gulf while Mommy Christine and big sister Arianne headed to Calgary.

Phil returned home safe and sound not long ago, and as the whole family enjoys their last few weeks in the Maritimes, we headed out for their Farewell to Nova Scotia session!

To many, today may not have seemed like beach weather, but for a photographer, it was perfect. Beautiful , soft lighting and just enough showers to keep away the sand flies.

Nault family, it has been a real pleasure getting to know you, and I wish you nothing but safe travels and happiness.

I hope you like some of my favorites ♥
