Wheeldon Wedding: Part II | Nova Scotia Wedding Photography

After Jen and Morgan’s ceremony at Cherry Hill Beach, everyone headed back to Oak Island in preparation for Liz and Johannes’ celebration later that afternoon. It was a time for some tennis playing, a brunch with old girlfriends from school, a bbq, a nap……and for me….a time to blow dry my pants! Shooting at the beach has its hazards you know!

I loved the quiet time for Liz and her Mom while getting ready. The love and respect for each other was palpable.

Liz’s reaction to her brother’s “custom” pocket scarf (both he and Dad had them!) was awesome.

The entire day was very much about two families joining together, and it was evident even in the way they walked in. Side by side, as one group, meeting at the front where a unity candle was lit.

Wonderful weather, warm and welcoming people, you couldn’t have asked for more.

Thank you again to the John,  Suiter and Wheeldon families for allowing me the honor of capturing your day. I hope I was able to do it in a way that reflects the honesty and “realness” of you all. ♥

Wheeldon Wedding: Part I | Nova Scotia Wedding Photography

This post will be a bit different than what you are used to seeing from me! In fact, I’ve apparently done such a good job marketing my maternity & newborn work that many people were surprised to hear I was shooting a wedding.

This however, was no ordinary wedding. When Jen first contacted me back in January, she and Morgan were living and teaching in Korea. They had announced their engagement right around the same time as Morgan’s brother, Johannes, and his fiance Liz.

Still with me?

Originally there was to be a joint ceremony, which over time morphed into two separate locations with entirely different feels.

We started the day with Jen and Morgan at Cherry Hill Beach. In our correspondence leading up to this past Saturday, Jen described her vision for the day as “very hippy and flowy and relaxed”.

And that it was.

There were no rings exchanged, rather a traditional smudging and blanket ceremony were performed. Followed by some fun in the sun ;)

I will be posting coverage of Liz and Johannes’ more formal, but equally as intimate, ceremony in the days to come. It took place on the chalet lawns of Oak Island Resort and Spa, which was also the setting for Jen and Morgan’s private shoot on the breakwater.

TO BE CONTINUED…….♥

Jeff + Nadine | Halifax Portrait Photographer

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times. I’m not a wedding photographer….I’m a maternity and newborn photographer.

But I’ve been known to be persuaded……and Nadine plays hardball.

Jeff and Nadine are old friends of mine, from the days when staying up until 3 am was the norm, not the exception. The days when dancing on glass coffee tables was considered “a great idea”. They started dating at the same time as Robbie and I…and that’s how we met.

Jeff was “silver car guy”….and I struck up a conversation one afternoon in the laundry room of our apartment building, in the hopes he would introduce me to his room-mate “green car guy”.

Fast forward 8 years.

Nadine asked me to shoot her wedding, and I said no.

More than once.

You see, Jeff would pour hot coals in his pants before having his photo taken, given the option.  I know this…..but what I also know is that I can make him laugh. That, coupled with Nadine’s crazy faith in me, sealed the deal.

That brought us to today….and the much awaited (or dreaded, depending on who you asked!) engagement session.

Turns out, it wasn’t so bad after all. ♥

I also wanted to give a big ol’ thank you to Sandy Darrach for assisting me today! Sandy is in her first year of the NSCC Photography program, and fulfilling part of her work-term with me. I’m humbled that she feels I have something worth teaching, and grateful for the extra set of hands……even if I didn’t always remember that they were there! THANKS SANDY!!!

A Little Dirt Won’t Kill Ya | Halifax Portrait Photographer

Cheryl is a trooper. I don’t know how else to put it.

Mark is pretty much a champ himself.

Can’t say I’d be so willing to sit in stank, cold, murky muck.

But …..they were, and, they did.

Looked mighty fly doing it too.

Big props to Liam, of Applehead Studio for getting down and dirty…myself and Brian Larter stayed relatively clean, but that smell…..wow. I think we all brought some of that home.

A super fun evening with great people.

Part III is gonna be…….*ahem*…..hot.

I Don’t Shoot Weddings……..Yet | Halifax Portrait Photographer

I don’t. I get asked all the time, yet it is a VERY rare occasion that I will say yes.  They scare me right now.  Some day, they won’t.

But this wedding already happened! And it was time to play!

If you’re not a fan of prying eyes, or being the centre of attention, it’s probably not the best idea to take a beautiful girl in a wedding dress and stick her in the dirt.

Of course, if you did do something wacky like that, you might just get treated to a personal tour of the dockyards by railcar.

Thanks to Liam of Applehead Studio for the invitation to shoot, and to Cheryl for being up for absolutely anything……I had a blast.
